The data from the GBROOS Project is freely available for public use as long as the following conditions are met:
- Any users of IMOS data are required to clearly acknowledge the source of the material in the format: 'Data was sourced from the Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS) an initiative of the Australian Government being conducted as part of the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy'.
- Data, products and services from IMOS are provided 'as is' without any warranty as to fitness for a particular purpose.
- Map products from this site, or generated with data from this site, are not to be used for navigation.
- Where the data is referenced in a publication it should be done in the form: 'IMOS [year-of-data-downloaded], [Title], [data-access-url], accessed [date-of-access]'
Note: Some of the data presented here may not have been fully quality controlled and so any use of non-quality controlled data should be done with caution.
Metadata is available for all of the data on this site. Metadata is 'data about the data', that is full descriptions of the data, the sensors that collected the data and how the data is processed and presented. As a minimum you should look at the metadata record for the sensor that collected the data you wish to use. This
will give you a lot of informatin about how the data was collected. Metadata records are avilable for the project at a high level, for the sub-components of GBROOS, for each platform (mooring, buoy, etc) and for each sensor deployed. It is hoped to have sensorML records also available for all of the data presented here. To access the metadata use the side navigation.
All scientific data should be use with a clear understanding of how the data was collected and any limitations or assumptions that may have been in place when the data was collected.
For each type of data (mooring data, sensor network, satellite images, etc) there is a web page on this site that describes any limitations on the data and how to interpret and use the data. For example with the sensor network data there may be times at extreme low tides that a sensor will be out of the water and so may have erroneous readings.
Please read these pages to ensure you understand what data you are getting and what it can be used for. Finally you should use the deployment pages to get an understanding of how the equipment is deployed.
Please contact the GBROOS Project Manager (see contacts page) if you have any questions about the use of the GBROOS Data.
