I am a fish ecologist from James Cook University. My thesis examined the functional composition of herbivorous fishes on Ningaloo Reef in Western Australia. Shortly after, I commenced a Research Fellowship within the School of Aquaculture at James Cook University. I was the principal investigator of a research program with the aim of developing an efficient and environmentally sustainable solution to bioremediation of mine effluents using seaweed. I specialised in the optimisation of the properties of seaweeds prior to and post manipulation into biochar. The final product can be used as a biosorbent of pollutants in mine effluents. In my current position at the Australian Institute of Marine Science I investigate the effect of climate change and ocean acidification on marine benthic organisms but I have also worked with fish monitoring and water quality assessments.
