Role
I am the Oceanography and Coastal Impacts Research Team Leader of Sustainable Coastal Ecosystems and Industries in Tropical Australia & the IMOS Australian National Mooring Network Facility Leader and Satellite Remote Sensing sub-facilty manager.
Background
Craig Steinberg has 29 years experience as a physical oceanographer undertaking research in inter-disciplinary studies at the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS). This involves observation, analysis and numerical modeling from scales that range from individual reefs to seas of phenomena ranging from waves to large-scale ocean circulation.
Education
  • BSc (Hons), Meteorology and Oceanography, Flinders University, South Australia, Australia, 1983
Current Research Activities
  • Investigating the role of upwelling, warming and mixing on the oceans' temperature structure with application to productivity hot spots and coral bleaching. The work combines the use of in situ observations, remote sensing and hydrodynamic modeling to address key coral reef and shelf circulation processes.
  • A significant role is managing the implementation and delivery of the Queensland and Northern Australian Integrated Marine Observing System Mooring and Satellite Remote Sensing sub-facilities
Expert Committees and Boards
IMOS ANMN Steering Committee Chair
AMOS Physical Oceanographic Expert Group Member
FRDC project Physical Oceanographic influences on Queensland reef fish and scallops 2013-2015 Steering Committee member (2013-2015)
